The following is an edited version of a presentation given By Dr. Bill (Anab) Whitehouse on August 6, 2006 in Long Island, New York through the support and kindness of the Sufi Circle (The videographer was Frank 'Abdul Majid' Vriale). The talk focuses on an exploration of certain themes involving revivalism, shari'ah, and the Sufi Path.

Although the topic of the Sufi Path is not spoken about directly until the latter portion of the talk, in point of fact, a Sufi perspective guides the discussion of the first two parts of the video that deal with the issues of revivalism and shari'ah. Indeed, the mystical tradition takes a very different approach to the manner in which topcis such as sharia'ah may be understood, developed and applied.

The video runs a few minutes over one hour. People with different modes of internet service providers -- meaning, among other things, different speeds of downloading and caching streaming video -- may, or may not, experience some viewing problems with the video below. If you do experience such problems, these usually will be at the beginning, and the best thing to do may be to let the material download for a few minutes before you start to watch the video.

Sometimes, as well, the speed at which the video streams may catch up with the downloading process and, if so, the video is likely to stall or stutter its way along to some extent. If this happens, you might try resetting the video bar back a little and proceeding from that point on.

Finally, as an alternative to the foregoing, if you do encounter technical difficulties when starting to view the video and if you have the time, start the video, turn the sound off, minimize the web page, and, then, go about your business giving the streaming video sufficient time to download to your computer's browser. When you come back to this page in an hour, or so, the streaming video should be fully cached and ready to go without, God willing, any or many problems.
